Meet Matt, FunkyCorp’s fun-loving and fearless content team leader.
Name: Matt Taylor
Position: Senior Producing Editor
Hometown: Banbury, Oxfordshire
Hobbies: Snowboarding, travel, the arts, language learning
Equally passionate about his job as he is enjoying life, Matt embodies the mantra “work hard, play hard,” or as he puts it, “Life is for living!” He’s full of energy, passion and creative ideas about the myriad projects we are working on, and he keeps us motivated with his Spotify playlists and his quick-fire GIFs. For his own afternoon pick-me-up, he reaches for a quadruple-shot Starbucks latte. Matt knows how to get things done in the thick of a challenging project, but when it’s time to celebrate our victories, he makes sure nobody is left without a drink in hand.
After he cut his teeth at FunkyCorp as a freelancer, translating and writing for the Visit Wakayama site, Matt was quickly hired full time, to work on projects from the behemoth JNTO site renewal to microsites on high profile historical areas. At the office, he wears many other hats: project manager, HR, localization strategy, Friday night bar tender… One of the things he loves about working at FunkyCorp, he says, is that “it’s an environment where I can challenge myself and grow beyond my job title.”
Outside of the office, when not off exploring intriguing destinations from Iceland to Bali, you’ll find him soaking up the sun on a stroll in Tokyo or biking through the city. “I love the Tokyo skyline. The city fills me with energy,” he says, listing Crista’s in Shibuya as his favorite brunch spot for a lazy Sunday, followed by a visit to Aoyama Farmer’s market and a few hours in Yoyogi Park to recharge for the week ahead.
